President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to visit ward 22 in Mabopane in the North of Pretoria on Friday.
It comes after the murder of councillor Tshepo Motaung, who was shot 21 times, two weeks ago. Officials in the area want the ANC to deploy its NEC members to calm tensions.
Ramaphosa avoided angry residents when he postponed his campaign in Soweto on Thursday.
Residents have been struggling with electricity supply and poor service delivery. Many are not buying the election promises but nothing has come of it.
