The taxi industry in Tshwane will embark on a motorcade on Monday morning in an attempt to combat the scourge of robberies in the area.

The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) says the motorcade will commence from the Old Putco depot in Marabastad and proceed to all the robbery hotspots across the city. It says too many commuters and drivers are being robbed.

SANTACO’s Tshwane spokesperson, Mcdonald Makata says “Together with law enforcement we have realised that there is a syndicate so we have taken it upon ourselves to make sure the people as well as the perpetrators to say we are watching them and we are on their heels and we are not going to tolerate that as the taxi industry that our commuters are robbed in our taxis and some of our drivers were killed and it is an ongoing thing that we think must come to an end.
