Kimberley’s Sol Plaatje Municipality will embark on another water supply shutdown from Thursday night until Sunday. The most recent three-day shutdown occurred in November of last year; supply disruptions have been occurring since 2018. Residents are encouraged to make the necessary preparations.

The local government claims the shutdown is necessary to address ongoing leaks in their infrastructure, which are costing them millions.

Municipality spokesperson Thoko Riet says, “The Sol Plaatje municipality will be embarking on a water shutdown, this is as a result of bulk water supply from Riverton to Kimberley that is experiencing severe leaks….”

“Residents are requested to have their water containers ready as water tankers will be driving around all wards. Funerals will be catered for by the roaming water tankers. The hospitals, old age homes and school hostels will also be catered for. We, therefore, urge residents to make adequate supply provisions to carry them through the duration of the interruption,” says Riet.
