Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Member of Parliament, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, says load shedding will not end as long as the ANC remains in power. She says African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa has made numerous promises over the last five years that blackouts would end, but it only became worse.

Mkhwebane was responding to the statement made by Electricity Minister, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa in the National Assembly. It was Mkhwebane’s maiden speech as an MP after she was sworn in last week.

“At the beginning of the year, the Secretary General of the ANC said load shedding will be ended before December 2023. And there are no scientific, engineering demonstration, evidence and science that load shedding will end under this government. Despite the many assurances given by this Minister who oddly does not have a dedicated committee to report to here in Parliament, load shedding will remain and will get worse as long as the ANC is still in Parliament.”

“The EFF’s roadmap to electricity, dependability articulated by the CIC Julius Malema and Deputy President Floyd Shivambu is the only solution that would end load shedding in South Africa,” adds Mkhwebane. Meanwhile, Ramokgopa said the country has turned a corner on the electricity crisis. However, he says we’re not out of the woods just yet. Ramokgopa was briefing the media on the ministerial energy action plan in Pretoria earlier.

He says the grid is beginning to show sustained performance over an extended period of time. South Africans have been breathing a sigh of relief recently with fewer days of blackouts.
