The accused in a murder act that made its way to social media, made his first court appearance on Monday. Boinehelo Lefefa (43) is accused of stabbing his Sibanye-Stillwater colleague to death. While police investigations into the motive for the alleged murder continue.
According to insiders, the accused felt aggrieved by the handling of an assault case he had laid against the deceased. In that attack, that happened around June, the shaft timber assistant was badly injured in the eye. While Thursday’s murder happened at the Leseding hostel, it is understood that neither the deceased nor the accused resided there.
Sibanye-Stillwater says it is shocked by the incident between two of its employees from the Kloof Gold Operations. It added that it is giving support to the affected families and employees and launched its own internal investigation. However, the mine would not be drawn on accusations around the disciplinary process involving the two. The case has been postponed to Monday for a formal bail application.
