The popular SABC2 Tshivenda soapie, Muvhango, is facing ongoing financial issues, with reports indicating that actors and crew members have once again not received their payments. Despite being on a production break, individuals involved in the show claim that they have not been compensated for their work prior to the break.

According to inside sources, the production break follows the completion of Season 24, during which the cast and crew anticipated receiving their payments for work done in September. However, the lack of communication and delayed payments have left them in the dark about the situation.

Insiders have revealed that the expected course of action would involve signing new contracts and commencing the shoot for the next season. However, no updates or contact regarding the future of the show have been provided, leading to frustration and uncertainty among those involved.

A separate source confirmed that non-payment has become a recurring issue on the show, creating an unbearable norm. There have been instances where individuals have sought other projects to avoid Muvhango’s payment problems. While some cast members earn substantial incomes, the lack of payment still affects those relying on their monthly salaries. Concerns have been raised about the show’s stagnant state, as evident from the absence of promotional activity on social media.

Yeshica Naidoo, Muvhango’s line producer, stated that they are awaiting a new contract from the SABC. She emphasized that payment cannot be expected when contracts are not in effect, dismissing claims of non-payment as sensationalized. Naidoo further explained that without a contract or communication from the SABC, the production team cannot proceed or provide updates on the situation.

Financial difficulties have plagued Muvhango since 2022, leading to work stoppages and cast members leaving due to financial concerns. In May of this year, Gabriel Temudzani, who portrays Azwindini Mukwevho, initially departed the show for financial reasons but returned following viewer and channel pressure. The character’s significance reportedly played a role in the decision to bring Temudzani back despite the challenges faced by the production.

The ongoing non-payment issues at Muvhango highlight the continued struggles faced by the cast and crew and raise questions about the stability and future of the popular soapie.
