The Northern Cape Department of Roads and Public Works has placed its chief financial officer (CFO) on precautionary suspension after he was allegedly found in possession of at least R600 000 cash in his car.
It is alleged that police discovered the money after the CFO, Bradley Slingers, was stopped during a roadblock last week. Department spokesperson Zandisile Luphahla says Slingers will be on precautionary suspension pending investigations.
“The CFO was driving a vehicle containing the money during office hours. MEC for Public Works, Fufe Makatong, stated that the allegations are being taken very seriously as such actions could unfairly cast the thriving department in a negative light.
“The suspension is precautionary in nature, pending both an internal review and external investigation into potential transgressions of financial protocols and codes of ethics for senior managers,” adds Luphahla.
