Some beneficiaries of government’s RDP housing scheme in Chief Mogale, West of Johannesburg, say government has restored their dignity. They say now they can use their houses as collateral if they need loans from banks.
According to its records, government said it has provided 5 million brick and mortar houses or serviced stands since 1994. But these houses were not only meant for the previously disadvantaged.
After years of struggling to make ends meet, the Koen family says they had this government to count on. 67-year-old Andre Koen says they are forever grateful for their house.
“We are very happy for this house that we got from the government and we are appreciating it that they helped us to get this house because the living cost is very expensive outside and we have got a very good communication with our neighbors. We are looking after each other and you can go on holiday or go away your house is safe when you come back.
