Minister of Electricity, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, has insisted that the end of load shedding is indeed in sight. He was speaking during the debate on President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address.

Ramokgopa’s statement comes despite the country having been plunged into Stage 6 load shedding at the weekend – days after the president made the same claim during his SONA. However, Ramokgopa insists that the grid is being strengthened through various interventions.

“Medupi’s Unit 4 will return to service in September and Unit 6 is expected to be synchronised by late November. This will add a further 1 600 megawatts to grid. Koeberg’s Unit 2 will return to service in September and this will add 980 megawatts to the grid. Other units are also expected to come online later this year adding about 2 400 megawatts to the grid
