A court case against a former convict out on parole who allegedly raped a nine-year-old girl in Hanover Park was postponed on Friday for further investigation.

The 51-year-old convicted child rapist, who is accused of committing the same crime, had his parole revoked on Friday.

He faces charges of human trafficking, rape, sexual assault, and abduction related to the incident on Tuesday last week.

State prosecutors asked for a postponement to 25 July for investigators to collect more evidence against the accused.

Social justice organisation Action Society has urged authorities not to delay the matter.

“We do appeal to SAPS [South African Police Service] and to the Justice Department to speedily get those items at court because we do see in some cases because of the DNA backlog that we currently have in our country, it takes up to three to six months to have that back at court,” said Action Society spokesperson Kaylynn Palm.
