Taxi council Santaco is urging commuters not to panic, following the recent announcement of fuel levy increases.
Santaco said that any potential fare hikes will be carefully considered and not applied without due process.
During his budget speech, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced fuel levy hikes of 16 cents per litre for petrol and 15 cents for diesel.

Santaco says that while the price increases will impact operating costs, fare adjustments typically happen only once a year and are based on route-specific expenses.
The council says commuters will be notified in advance of any changes through official communication from taxi associations.
Meanwhile, Santaco continues to lobbythe government for a direct subsidy, saying the taxi industry transports millions every day, but receives no formal state support.
