DWS: Gauteng will still experience water woes unless infrastructure improves & leakages fixed! The Department of Water and Sanitation has warned that Gauteng municipalities will continue to experience water supply challenges unless they improve their infrastructure and fix leakages.

Although the department has been assisting municipalities in tackling these problems, it said preventing leaks and upgrading infrastructure are not its direct responsibilities.

Rand Water previously reported that at least 30% of Gauteng’s water is lost due to leaks.

Speaking to journalists in the Free State on Sunday, Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina urged municipalities to take a proactive approach in resolving these issues.
