Gun violence continues to ravage areas such as the Cape Flats, despite a decrease in the murder rate countrywide.
The recent crime figures from January and March this year show that at least four of the city’s districts are listed among the deadliest areas in South Africa.
Gun Free South Africa director Stanley Maphosa said the government needs to properly enforce the implementation of gun laws in the country.
“Secondly, what we need to do we need to reduce the number of firearms; the firearms are too many and we need to have control and see that the registry of the firearms is in place.”
He added that this will give police an idea of the number of guns issued to people and who is using them.
