Mom accuses Kelly Smith of playing the victim, lying about testifying about happened to Joshlin! Missing girl Joshlin Smith’s grandmother made a damning statement against her own daughter, Kelly Smith, in aggravation of her sentence on Wednesday.
Smith broke down in tears while victim impact statements were read in court.
She will be sentenced on Thursday, along with Jacquen Appollis and Steveno van Rhyn, after being found guilty of kidnapping and human trafficking related to Joshlin’s disappearance.

A written account from Joshlin’s class teacher and the child’s grandmother were among the victim impact statements submitted to court.
A damning letter from Amanda Daniels, Kelly Smith’s mother, was presented as a victim impact statement in aggravation of Smith’s sentence on Wednesday.
In her letter, Daniels wrote that Smith had made their lives hell and mentioned the impact her actions had on Joshlin’s elder brother, Requen.
“Do you think how bad Requen must feel when kids make fun of him for his mother using tik and selling his blood sister?”
Daniels also mentioned how Smith lied to her when she told her she would testify to tell the truth about what happened to Joshlin.
“You don’t want to take responsibility for your actions, now you want to play victim. You looked at me in the face and said: ‘Mummy, I will talk the next time when we appear’ but you lied again.”
Legal teams have made their final arguments for Judge Nathan Erasmus to hand down sentencing on Thursday.
