Gift of the Givers is working closely with community leaders and local authorities to ensure vulnerable communities receive critical aid as extreme weather conditions are expected to intensify this weekend.
This comes after the South African Weather Service (SAWS) raised this weekend’s its rainfall warning from level 2 to 4.
The humanitarian organisation said it’s currently on stand-by and has prepared additional resources and supplies to support communities through the harsh winter months ahead.
Gift of the Givers working closely
Spokesperson Ali Sablay said the NGO is committed to restoring dignity and offering hope to those affected by disasters.
“Our teams are also on standby for various flood reports coming in from informal settlements around the Western Cape. We are currently on the ground conducting assessments.”
In addition to flood response, Sablay said the organisation has also been providing support to communities impacted by recent fires in informal settlements.
“It has been a busy seven days for the Gift of the Givers team members. As our Western Cape team prepares for the imminent weather predictions this weekend and in the months to come, we’re inundated with calls for assistance due to fires in informal settlements.”
