Unlearning and Forgiveness
Gigi spoke candidly about the journey of unlearning unhealthy emotional patterns. Through this process, she began to reconnect with her father. “He always forgets my birthday, I always remember his, but I love him,” she said. “Even in the toxicity of it all, he would say, ‘I’m your father and you can’t change that.’”
She acknowledged that forgiving her father was more for her own healing than his redemption.
Facing the Pain and Moving Forward
Understanding her father’s past helped Gigi make peace with her own. “I just have to love him for how he is and understand how painful his past was,” she said.
She made the conscious decision to meet with her father and give him the chance to speak. “I got the apologies, and they had to be enough for me,” she said. “If things had remained the way they were, he would have died not feeling like he had the opportunity to say what he needed to.”
In the end, her father admitted his failures: “He said he messed up.”
