Alleged July 2021 unrest instigator, Bonginkosi Khanyile, is set to return to court for a pre-trial hearing on Friday.
Khanyile is facing charges related to the 2021 riots, which rocked parts of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and Gauteng.
Khanyile is accused of having influenced the public violence in parts of KZN.

He is also charged with flouting COVID-19 lockdown regulations when he addressed scores of people in the Durban CBD.
Khanyile called for the release of former President Jacob Zuma, who was in prison for contempt of court at the time.
The state said he encouraged anarchy.
On Friday, it is expected to be determined if the case is ready to go to trial.
