For DJ Sphectacula, being a father is more than just bedtime stories and homework duty — it’s about building a legacy filled with love, laughter, and music his children can be proud of. As one half of the acclaimed duo Sphectacula & DJ Naves, the veteran DJ shared his thoughts on parenting with TshisaLIVE this Father’s Day.
A Privileged Role
Reflecting on fatherhood, Sphectacula said, “It’s a great reminder of how important the role of a present father figure is in the family structure — and how privileged I am to be that person.” He takes his responsibility seriously, not just for his immediate family, but extended relatives too.

Clean Music, Clear Legacy
His sense of duty even extends to his music. Sphectacula has moved away from explicit content to produce music that his children can listen to without discomfort. “My kids are going to go through Dad’s catalogue at some point,” he laughed. “I don’t want unsavoury language and subject matter to seem cool.”
He added that his image and choices must pave the way for his children, not hinder them: “My legacy must make their lives easier, not harder.”
Cherishing the Simple Moments
Sphectacula finds joy in the small moments of fatherhood. Beach days with his nine-year-old son are filled with laughter and carefree fun. “The innocent giggles and zero cares for anything else… that’s the good stuff,” he said.
With his infant, the bond is just as powerful. “When he latches onto my face on a video call and immediately smiles — that makes my day. Every time.”
Words of Wisdom for Dads
To fathers juggling careers and parenting, Sphectacula offers this advice: “Hustle hard, but be a present father first and a wallet second. Your money can’t buy you missed moments.”
He wants his children to always feel loved and supported: “They must never doubt it and go looking for father figures while I’m still alive.”
Legacy Through Love
In his own words, he hopes to be remembered as “someone who dedicated himself to impacting people positively with his talent — and brought smiles to their faces at the mention of his name.”
