The provincial transport department says searches were conducted at two homesteads in Tombo and Mthumbane near Port St Johns last week, when the firearms and ammunition were discovered.

Three suspects, two women and one man, were arrested at the scene.
Transport department spokesperson Makhaya Komisa says the trio now face charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, as well as contravening the Firearms Control Act.
“MEC Xolile Nqatha commends the South African Police Service for their ongoing efforts to protect the citizens of this province. MEC says it’s quite clear that these illegal firearms would have been used for criminal activities.”
