Babes Wodumo slams DJ Tira over unapproved Mampintsha tribute concert! Gqom artist Babes Wodumo has publicly expressed her frustration with DJ Tira and the Department of Arts and Culture for organising a tribute concert in honour of her late husband, Mampintsha, without her involvement. Mampintsha passed away on December 24, 2022, following a stroke.

Taking to social media on Thursday, Babes poured out her pain over being sidelined in decisions involving Mampintsha’s legacy.

“No One Spoke to Me”

“Nothing breaks my heart and soul more than this,” she wrote. “A tribute to Mampintsha but no one spoke to me about it. Everyone just wants to use his name for their pockets.”

She revealed she had long been planning a tribute for Mampintsha, whom she lovingly called “baba ka Sponge,” and was shocked to see others taking the lead without her approval.

Past Disrespect Recalled

Babes also alleged that during Mampintsha’s funeral, an event was held in his honour, but she and their son did not receive any financial support from it. “Who gets the money?” she asked. “Arts and culture, how did you approve this without checking with us?”

A Plea to DJ Tira

Addressing DJ Tira directly, Babes said, “I love you as my brother, but please stand up as Mampintsha’s old friend. Say ‘No!’ not for me or you, but for Sponge.”

She insisted she will host a tribute herself, staying true to Mampintsha’s original vision for a one-man show before his passing.

Her emotional message concluded with a heartfelt plea: “Someday, I wish I could wake him up and show him what’s happening in his name. Please, leave him alone.”
