The funeral service of former Eastern Cape Judge President Justice Clement Themba Sangoni took place in Qokolweni, in Mthatha, in the Eastern Cape, on Saturday.
The legal fundi was granted a special provincial official funeral.
Various dignitaries, family, including his colleagues in the judicial system, gathered to close the curtain on a towering figure in the country’s judiciary.

Justice Sangoni died last week at the age of 77 following a short illness.
Sangoni’s legal career spanned over 40 years and culminated in his appointment as Judge President in the Eastern Cape High Court in 2010, a position he held until his retirement in 2017.
He also served as a senior traditional leader of the Qokolweni-Zimbane Traditional Council in Mthatha.
Paying tribute to the justice, Advocate Marumo Moerane said, “Over the past few days, many words have been spoken about the humble legal giant that we have just laid to rest. Indeed, a great tree has fallen. I adopt all the sentiments that have been expressed about this legal luminary and confirm their truth.”
