The corruption case of former defence minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula is still not trial-ready, much to the frustration of the presiding judge.

Mapisa-Nqakula made a brief appearance in the Pretoria High Court on Friday, where her matter was once again postponed.

Mapisa-Nqakula is facing several counts of corruption and money laundering after being accused of soliciting and receiving bribes amounting to R4.5 million from a defence contractor.

It has been more than eight months since this matter was transferred from the Pretoria Magistrates Court to the High Court for trial.

However, a trial date has not been set as the matter is still at the disclosure stage.

Judge Mokhine Mosopa said that he feels the matter is “regressing” as it was revealed in court that full disclosure has not been made.

In addition, Makhi Nogaga, who is representing the ex-minister, said that they plan to make more disclosure applications, including seeking the bank statements of the State’s main witness, Nombasa Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu.

“If I can make an example of the items that we require, we do not have the full bank details of the complainant, which is relevant to the matter,” explained Nogaga.

The matter has been adjourned to 18 August 2025 for a progress report on the disclosures.
