Blending Science and Culture
The Kgodumodumo Centre brings together palaeontology, archaeology, geology, and cultural heritage in an innovative way. Its purpose is to spark curiosity and promote education about South Africa’s ancient past and rich cultural stories.
Launch Ceremony and Significance
The centre was officially opened by His Majesty Moremoholo Mopeli of the Bakoena Kingdom and Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille. “It’s creating jobs and imparting knowledge to the youth,” said Mopeli, praising the centre for preserving the oral histories of elders.
De Lille echoed his sentiments, highlighting the country’s deep-rooted significance in human history. “The oldest dinosaur embryo, over 220 million years old, was found here,” she said. “South Africa is the cradle of human culture.”
Free Access for Citizens
To celebrate the launch, SANParks announced that all South African citizens will enjoy free entry to the Kgodumodumo Centre from Monday until 30 September, encouraging more locals to explore their prehistoric and cultural heritage.
