Crime Intelligence head and co-accused face serious fraud charges! The Investigative Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) says it has built a solid case against Crime Intelligence boss Dumisani Khumalo and six others.
The accused face charges of corruption and fraud following the controversial appointment of an unqualified woman to a high-ranking post within Crime Intelligence.
Questionable Appointment of Dineo Mokwele
Dineo Mokwele, 30, was hired as the technical support system manager in Crime Intelligence, a role vital to South Africa’s covert national operations. Despite never being a member of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and having no related qualifications, Mokwele was given the senior rank of brigadier.

False Qualifications and High Salary
It’s alleged that Mokwele lied on her CV, claiming to hold an MBA—one of the key requirements for the position. Prosecutor Joy Hlatshwayo told the Pretoria Magistrates Court that Mokwele only registered for the MBA in 2024 and has not completed it.
She was reportedly working at a car dealership before landing the government role, which came with a net monthly salary of over R50,000.
Collusion Among Senior Officials
Authorities believe the fraudulent appointment was enabled by Khumalo, Gauteng Crime Intelligence head Josias Lekalakala, and others. The case has been postponed to August.
