Skeem Saam actor Macks Papo proposes live on national radio! Veteran Skeem Saam actor Macks Papo, known for his role as Marothi on the popular SABC1 drama, shocked fans and listeners alike when he proposed to his girlfriend live on Metro FM.
The emotional moment happened on Wednesday, 9 July, during Break Away with Khutso Theledi, with the Naked DJ also present in the studio.
Macks Papo proposes
The 59-year-old actor told Daily Sun that although he and Ramoraswi Manabile had only been officially dating for a few weeks, he had admired her for over a decade.
From Friend Zone to Fiancée
“I’ve been asking her out for the past 13 years,” Macks admitted. “I was in the friend zone all this time, but I always loved her.”
He shared that Ramoraswi’s bubbly personality and vibrant spirit reminded him of himself. Their playful exchanges, calling each other “My guy” and “My girl”, laid the foundation for a deeper connection.
The turning point came during Presley ‘Cobrizi’ Chweneyagae’s memorial service, where Macks invited Ramoraswi to be his date. “She looked so beautiful,” he recalled. “I knew that day, the friend zone had to end.”
The Radio Proposal That Touched the Nation
Macks said he wanted the proposal to be meaningful and modern while maintaining cultural depth. He approached the Metro FM producers ahead of his scheduled interview and asked to do something “amazing, powerful, irregular, and unusual.”
Though a seasoned performer and man of words, Macks admitted he was overwhelmed in the moment: “I ran out of language and words. It had to come from my heart and soul—and that’s why she said yes.”
Listeners were moved by the raw sincerity of the moment, with many taking to social media to applaud the proposal. “I didn’t do it for likes,” he clarified. “Little did I know I’d cause such nice havoc—everyone wants a piece of it!”
A Spiritual Connection
Despite the short time they’ve been officially together, Macks believes the relationship is deeply spiritual and divinely guided.
“We are a heavenly match. This is a fairytale—but it’s real,” he said. “We’re connected on a level the world can’t even negotiate with. We’re about joy, energy, and purpose.”
The couple is now celebrating their engagement, proof that true love is worth the wait—even if it takes 13 years.
