National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola has urged communities to allow the commission of inquiry probing the allegations of corruption within law enforcement to complete its work.
Masemola spoke to a number of protestors in Durban on Tuesday, demanding the immediate expulsion of crime detection boss Shadrack Sibiya from the police service, while some chanted for the removal of Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu from the top post.
The pair is implicated in a series of allegations by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who alleged they may be linked to wrongdoing.

Delivering the memorandum of demands directed to President Cyril Ramaphosa, former KZN police colonel Vincent Mdunge called on the president to act on Mchunu, who has since been placed on leave of absence.
Mdunge said that following the allegations made by Mkhwanazi, a leave of absence is not enough action.
However, Masemola has called for calm in this regard.
“All I am requesting from the society is that the president has spoken. There is a commission appointed, let’s give it time to do its work.”
He also addressed the threats of riots made by some should no further action be taken against Mchunu.
“Crime fighting will continue, not only in this province but the rest of the country. We will continue fighting crime, so we are asking you to behave. This country, South Africa, belongs to all of us, so don’t even think of damaging even a light pole or dustbin.”
The commissioner also urged communities to take responsibility in defending their communities from crime.
