2 of 4 suspects arrested for DJ Sumbody’s murder linked to 2 other high-profile cases! Two of the four men arrested in connection with the assassination of musician, DJ Sumbody, have also been linked to two other high-profile cases.
The accused made their first court appearance on Tuesday morning at the Alexandra Magistrates Court, where the matter was postponed to next Tuesday to allow for further investigations and a formal bail application.
DJ Sumbody, whose name was Oupa John Sefoka, was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Johannesburg in November 2022, in a case that sparked widespread speculation about who ordered the hit.
DJ Sumbody’s murder
Nearly three years later, police arrested four men suspected of being behind his murder, including the alleged mastermind who called the hit.
Tuesday’s brief appearance brought with it some stunning revelations.
It emerged that two of the accused were also linked to the assassination of Transnet engineer, Armand Swart, and the attempted murder of socialite, Tebogo Thobejane.
Thobejane’s name has been in the spotlight in recent weeks, after a bombshell briefing by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi revealed alleged connections between Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and the man accused of ordering a hit on her, Vusumuzi “Cat” Matlala.
Matlala, who is currently incarcerated at the Kgosi Mampuru Maximum Security Prison, is already on trial for that attempted hit.
Outside court on Tuesday morning, police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, confirmed that more arrests could follow.
“What is also interesting is that the two hitmen in this particular case are also linked to the Tebogo Thobejane attempted murder. So, all these are linked somehow.”
As investigators continue to probe the crimes, all four accused remain in custody until their next appearance on Tuesday.
