Media personality DJ Warras has sparked heated debate after accusing some Durban police officers of accepting bribes from drug dealers and criminals.
Speaking on Podcast Party SA, Warras alleged that officers in the city, particularly in the Point area, were deliberately ignoring illegal activities in exchange for payments.
“If you’ve been to Durban and you go to Point, it’s been overrun… heavy Nigerian presence. It’s well known there’s drugs moving there and other crimes, and those police we spoke about on levels E and D are well paid by these guys to leave them alone,” Warras stated in a widely shared clip.

Backing Mkhwanazi, Criticising Ramaphosa
While calling out corruption, Warras praised General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and his team for their uncompromising approach. “When they come in there, there’s no talk of bribes… They clean up,” he said.
However, he criticised President Cyril Ramaphosa’s response to Mkhwanazi’s explosive corruption claims, blasting the decision to launch a commission of inquiry instead of taking decisive action.
“The man has WhatsApp messages as evidence, and the government says, ‘Let’s discuss it over six months.’ What the hell?” he exclaimed.
Questioning Recent Police Breakthroughs
Warras also questioned the sudden progress in high-profile cases, including the murder of DJ Sumbody. “For years, they couldn’t catch these murderers. Now, suddenly, three or four arrests in six days? Did police magically get good at their jobs overnight? I refuse to believe,” he said.
His comments have ignited intense online debates about accountability, corruption, and the state of policing in Durban.
