Western Cape Education Dept saddened by increase in school burglaries & vandalism! With repairs expected to cost around R1 million, Western Cape Education (WCED) said it is saddened to report an increase in the number of incidents of school burglaries and vandalism at provincial schools this past holiday.

The Department said the number climbed from 45 last year to 57 for this year.

It said even though these crimes were minor in nature, they have impacted the everyday functionality of schools.

Western Cape Provincial Minister of Education, David Maynier, said, “Funding will now have to be diverted from educational activities because of the selfish actions of criminals. Keeping our schools safe requires the support of our school communities, and quick reporting can make all the difference in apprehending perpetrators and retrieving stolen goods.”
