Heavy police presence at Maponya Mall after e-hailing driver killed & vehicles torched! There’s a heavy police presence outside Maponya Mall in Soweto after an e-hailing driver was killed and two vehicles set on fire.
Four gunmen shot a driver who was parked outside the mall’s entrance on Wednesday night.
They also opened fire on another driver who was injured but managed to flee from his vehicle, which was also set alight.

An onlooker was also shot and was later taken to hospital alongside the surviving driver.
Gauteng Transport MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela has described the attack as barbaric.
Armed and watchful, police officers are on guard both inside and outside the Maponya Mall, monitoring the situation.
The gates that cars use remain closed, while employees working at the mall are allowed to walk in on foot.
There’s still some charred debris from the two cars that were torched on Wednesday night.
Traffic is flowing, with mainly taxis operating outside the mall.
