SANTACO apologises to stranded commuters amid KZN taxi strike! The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) has once again apologised for the inconvenience caused to thousands of commuters who were forced to seek alternative transport during the Durban taxi strike.
On Thursday, taxi operators had put the brakes on operations following SANTACO’s announcement of a two-day shutdown over impoundments of their vehicles.

The shutdown was called off after successful engagements were held with the council and KwaZulu-Natal Transport MEC Siboniso Duma.
SANTACO Durban west region chairperson Mathula Mkhize said the unfavourable circumstances they found themselves in had pushed them to halting operations.
“I can’t see anyone having any joy or fun out of the situation, but we are compromised either way. We have illegal cars on the road, taxis on the road. We’ve tried to legalise them by getting operating licenses. It has not happened based on government systems and other frustrations. Others are not even to be blamed on the individual. We’ve understood them.”
