Limpopo-based Lekompo star Shebeshxt has suffered a major legal blow after the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court denied his bail application, a decision that will see him remain behind bars throughout the festive season.

The controversial musician, whose real name is Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, appeared in court on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, where the magistrate delivered a ruling on his bail bid. Shebeshxt was arrested in November following a road rage incident that escalated into serious allegations, including a charge of attempted murder.

During the bail proceedings, the defence argued that the artist posed no flight risk and could be released under strict conditions. They reportedly highlighted his status as a public figure, his ties to Limpopo, and his responsibilities to his family and career. However, the state opposed bail, emphasising the gravity of the charges and raising concerns about public safety, possible interference with witnesses, and the broader interests of justice.

After considering submissions from both sides, the court ruled against granting bail. The magistrate found that releasing Shebeshxt at this stage would not be in the interests of justice, effectively sealing his fate to remain in custody until his next court appearance.

As a result of the ruling, the Ambulance hitmaker will spend Christmas and New Year’s in jail, with his next scheduled court appearance set for February 2026. The decision marks a significant setback for the artist, whose career has been gaining momentum in recent years within the Lekompo music scene.

Footage of Shebeshxt in court circulated rapidly on social media shortly after the ruling was handed down. In the clip, the artist can be seen standing quietly as the magistrate delivers the decision, a moment that quickly sparked widespread online discussion.

One viral post announcing the outcome read: “𝗦𝗛𝗘𝗕𝗘𝗦𝗛𝗫𝗧 𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗘𝗗 𝗕𝗔𝗜𝗟. The Polokwane Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo has denied bail to Lekompo musician Shebeshxt. As a result, he will remain in custody until his next court appearance on 18 February 2026.”

The post triggered a flood of reactions from fans, critics, and fellow music lovers. Many supporters expressed shock and sadness, saying it was painful to see the artist spend the festive season behind bars. Some urged the public not to judge him prematurely, stressing that he is still innocent until proven guilty and deserves a fair trial.

Others, however, welcomed the court’s decision, arguing that the seriousness of the allegations warranted a firm stance. Several users pointed out that fame should not place anyone above the law, and that the justice system must treat all accused persons equally, regardless of their celebrity status.

Shebeshxt’s legal troubles have once again placed him at the centre of public debate. Known for his energetic performances and street-inspired sound, the musician has built a loyal following, particularly in Limpopo and surrounding provinces. However, his repeated brushes with controversy have increasingly overshadowed his musical achievements.

The latest development adds uncertainty to his career, with fans questioning how the ongoing court case will affect upcoming projects, performances, and collaborations. For now, the focus has shifted away from chart success and back to the courtroom, where the outcome of his case will ultimately determine his future.

As Shebeshxt prepares to spend the festive season in custody, the ruling serves as a stark reminder of how quickly fame can collide with the law. All eyes will now be on February 2026, when he returns to court and the next chapter of his legal battle unfolds.
