President Cyril Ramaphosa is in isolation after testing positive for COVID-19. Deputy President David Mabuza will, for the rest of the week, execute all presidential responsibilities.
According to the Presidency, Ramaphosa started feeling unwell after leaving the State Memorial Service for FW de Klerk in Cape Town on Sunday.
The Presidency says Ramaphosa is in good spirits and receiving treatment from military doctors for mild COVID-19 symptoms. The President is fully vaccinated.
Meanwhile, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported 18,035 new cases on Sunday. A total of 21 people have died due to COVID-19 related complications.
