Where to celebrate Women’s Day in Durban

National Women’s Day is celebrated annually on 9 August. It is the anniversary of the great women’s march of 1956. On that day, about 2,000 women marched to the Union Buildings to protest the carrying of passbooks by Black women in urban areas.

Even today, women continue to fight against oppression and for the equal rights of all humans.

To celebrate the day and the strength of women, there are several events happening in the country. Let’s look at those happening in and around Durban.

Totalsports Women’s Race Durban

Start your Women’s Day celebration by taking part in the Totalsports Women’s Race happening at Kings Park Athletics Track. The race is aimed at raising awareness around breast cancer.

It starts at 10 am and there are exclusive T-shirts for all entrants and exclusive finishers’ bracelets.

Durban Divas Celebrating Women

This event promises to be lots of fun. There will be music, poetry, games, dance, and an opportunity to network with other phenomenal women. The event costs R100. The theme is ‘colourful with hats’. It takes place at BAT Centre, 45 Maritime Pl, Victoria Embankment.

Women’s Day Cup a Cancer

Join Donlee Creations in the fight against cancer this Women’s Day.

The event is for free, however, there will be tea and cupcakes on sale and all the proceeds will go to CANSA.

“This event is to empower our local entrepreneurs and to celebrate the women in our community. I do the woman’s day event in conjunction with the cups for cancer drive in memory of my late dad and I’m also a cancer survivor. All proceeds for the Day goes to CANSA Cancer Association of South Africa,” says organiser Roshni Naicker of Donlee Creations.

This event takes place at Merebank, Kwazulu-Natal from 10 until 4 pm.

Women’s Day Expo

With the aim of inspiring women to become successful by exposing them to other successful businesswomen, the Women’s Day Expo is a must-attend for anyone wanting to network this Women’s Day.

There will be fun activities for women, special guest speakers, and different businesses owned by women on display.

The event takes place at Stables Theatre, 115 Alice Street, Warwick Ave, 115 Johannes Nkosi.
