COVID-19: SA records 7 502 new cases and 573 deaths

South Africa has recorded 7,502 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24-hour reporting cycle.

The NICD said 573 more people have died.

Infections in the Western Cape stand at 1,706 and 1,273 in Gauteng.

A total of 39,639 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), a division of the National Health Laboratory Service, continues the monitoring and surveillance of COVID-19 in order to inform the public health response.

15,363,298 tests have been conducted in both the public and private sectors.

The majority of new cases are from KwaZulu-Natal (26%), followed by Western Cape (23%). Gauteng Province accounted for 17%; Eastern Cape accounted for 13%; Free State accounted for 6%; Mpumalanga and North West each accounted for 5% respectively; Limpopo Province accounted for 3% and Northern Cape accounted for 2% of today’s new cases.

The South African Weather Service on Wednesday issued a warning of cold weather conditions expected to hit the province this week.
