Former President Jacob Zuma

The ANC has welcomed the decision to grant former president Jacob Zuma medical parole. Zuma is serving a 15-month sentence for contempt of court.

That’s after he refused a Constitutional Court order to appear before the State Capture Inquiry.

Approximately a month after his sentence began, Zuma was admitted to the hospital where he underwent surgery.

Now, the Correctional Services Department says, based on a medical report, the former president qualifies for medical parole.

Zuma will complete the rest of his sentence under community correction.

This means he must comply with a specific set of conditions and will be subject to supervision until his sentence expires.
