While some Johannesburg has not had a drop of water for eight weeks, The chairperson of the city’s Environment, Infrastructure and Services Committee, says work is underway to restore water to high-lying areas. Ismail Moosa says the city’s old infrastructure is not designed to meet today’s demands.
Moosa said, “we have a capacity shortage, not to the extent that we cannot supply water.” There is water, Rand Water supplies Johannesburg Water. The capacity presently is a difficult one because there is not enough to supply…in the meantime we have contingency plans are being put in place. In meantime, we are ensuring the water supply is constant…”
“Some of the issues we are trying to deal with at the moment is to ensure that the high lying areas have water.” Presently, Joburg Water is trying to restore water supply in the high lying areas.”
“The old infrastructure wasn’t planned and designed for today water supply. Hence today, you need major infrastructure improvements.
