Leader of the newly formed African Congress for Transformation, Ace Magashule, has opened a case of common assault and crimen injuria against a man who alleges he was assaulted by the politician and his entourage in Meloding, Virginia, in the Free State.

The 44-year-old man indicated that Magashule and his entourage assaulted him while handing out t-shirts during the party’s campaign in the area on Saturday. The man registered a case of common assault against Magashule after the incident. Police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng says the victim sustained injuries to his face.

According to Magashule, they were campaigning for their political party and using 15 vehicles in convoy to distribute t-shirts to a group of residents.

The man allegedly threw the t-shirt back onto Magashule’s face and started swearing at him, telling him that the ward belonged to the ruling party. That’s when the bodyguards and marshals intervened.

Meanwhile, Magashule rejected the claim against him that he collapsed services in the Free State during his tenure as Premier. He says he will form a coalition with like-minded Black African parties.
