Televangelist Timothy Omotoso is expected to appear in the East London Magistrate’s court on Monday.
The Nigerian pastor was arrested in the early hours of Saturday for allegedly flouting immigration laws.
This after the home affairs minister rejected Omotoso’s application to overturn an earlier decision by the department to declare him a prohibited person.

The Nigerian pastor is now in the country illegally and faces deportation.
Omotoso was acquitted last month on all 32 charges of rape, trafficking and sexual assault alleged to have taken place at a church he leads in Gqeberha.
“In order to ensure compliance with the laws of the Republic, Omotoso is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, 12 May 2025, on charges of contravening provisions of the Immigration Act,” said home affairs spokesperson Siya Qoza.
“The Department of Home Affairs continues to be guided by our unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law without fear or favour.”
