Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, has told Parliament that white Afrikaner “refugees” in the United States (US) are not a threat to national sovereignty and unity.
But she said law enforcement agencies must continue their treason investigation into certain Afrikaner organisations for spreading misinformation about white persecution and trying to destabilise the country.
Ntshavheni was responding to questions in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on Tuesday as part of the peace and security cluster, where she addressed the matter.

Ntshavheni said members of the Afrikaner community who have rejected the claims of persecution must be commended.
She also said the police are winning the fight against farm murders, which many claim is part of the attack on white South Africans.
But Ntshavheni is not convinced that the departure of the 49 Afrikaners will cause any problems for the country.
“I’m sure members will be tempted to say the 49 people who moved from being citizens to become refugees is a threat to national sovereignty. It’s not a threat to national sovereignty; it’s not a threat to national unity.”
But she said the treason investigation into the spreading of false information has to continue.
“But we continue to make sure the treasonous acts cannot be left unpunished.”
Ntshavheni said the country’s democracy was achieved at a huge sacrifice and that the government’s transformation agenda can’t be compromised.
