Olorato Mongale: Family & friends to hold candlelight service in Lombardy West where body was found! A candlelight service will be held in Lombardy West on Wednesday evening, where the body of young journalist, Olorato Mongale, was found dumped just over a week ago.

The 24-year-old had left home to see a man she’d recently met in Bloemfontein, telling friends that she was getting ready for a date.

She never returned from that meeting.

Mongale was working towards attaining her master’s degree and was just months away from graduating.

On Wednesday night, friends, family, colleagues and community members will gather in her memory to grieve, to honour, and to light candles for a future that was stolen.

Mongale’s body was discovered in Lombardy, north of Johannesburg, hours after she was seen leaving with a man.

The two had been in touch for days after meeting at a Free State mall and had planned to spend the day together.

She texted her friend shortly before leaving home, saying that she was excited and getting ready.

But police later found her body in an open field, sparking outrage and a widespread search for answers.

And now, instead of celebrating her academic milestone, her family is planning a funeral.
