President Ramaphosa green lights establishment of commission of judicial inquiry into apartheid-era crimes! President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed a proclamation for the establishment of a judicial commission of inquiry into apartheid-era crimes.
The commission will probe whether there were attempts made to influence the police or the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) not to investigate and prosecute cases identified by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC).
It will cover the period from 2003 and will also investigate whether there should be payments in constitutional damages paid to affected people.

The inquiry will be chaired by retired Constitutional Court Justice Sisi Khampepe.
Retired Northern Cape Judge President Frans Diale Kgomo and Advocate Andrea Gabreil will also form part of the panel.
“The commission will be expected to complete its work within six months from the date of this proclamation and submit its report within 60 days after the completion of its work,” said Presidency spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya.
“While the families of victims and government have agreed to the establishment of the commission of inquiry, there was no agreement on other matters in the application.”
