Five Walter Sisulu University students arrested during a protest at the Mthatha main campus have been released on warning.
On Wednesday, the group demonstrated after a residence manager accused of killing fellow student Sisonke Mbolekwa in April was granted bail at the local magistrate’s court.

Manelisi Mampane allegedly shot and killed Mbolekwa during a protest over deplorable accommodation facilities for students.
The five students linked to Wednesday’s protest appeared before the Mthatha Magistrates Court earlier on Thursday.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson in the Eastern Cape, Luxolo Tyali, said, “They are charged with public violence. They were released on warning as the State didn’t oppose their release on bail, and they will appear again in court on the 26th of August as their matter was postponed for further investigations.”
