N4 highway closure for major electrical upgrade! A key section of the N4 highway in eastern Tshwane will be closed on Sunday, June 16, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The closure affects the stretch between the Simon Vermooten and Solomon Mahlangu interchanges.
The City of Tshwane confirmed that this is to allow critical electrical infrastructure upgrades to take place safely.
Part of the Waltloo-Njala Project
The road closure is part of the City’s ongoing Waltloo–Njala transmission line project. The project involves the installation of high-voltage conductors that will help boost the capacity of the eastern electricity grid. Crews will work throughout the 10-hour window to ensure the safe stringing of these conductors.

City spokesperson Lindela Mashigo stressed the importance of the work, saying it is “crucial for strengthening and stabilising electricity supply to the eastern grid of Tshwane.” The upgrade aims to benefit both residential and industrial areas, ensuring long-term energy stability and reduced risk of outages.
Motorists Advised to Plan Ahead
Motorists are urged to avoid the affected area and use alternative routes to minimise delays. Traffic officials will be on-site to assist with diversions.
