Babes Wodumo reunites with Mampintsha’s father on Youth Day! Gqom artist Babes Wodumo shared a heartfelt moment with her late husband Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo’s father, Thembinkosi Maphumulo, during her performance at the EFF’s Youth Day celebration in Umlazi, Durban, on Monday.
Spotting him in the crowd, Babes warmly escorted Thembinkosi to the VIP section, where they spent time reminiscing about the late musician.

Bittersweet Occasion
Their emotional encounter took place on a significant day — the birthday of Babes and Mampintsha’s son. Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Babes said June 16 is always bittersweet. “Every year I have to leave him to go work instead of celebrating his birthday because it’s a busy day for me as an artist, even when his father was alive,” she explained.
Honouring Mampintsha’s Memory
Though Babes and Thembinkosi don’t often see each other, she expressed joy at reconnecting in Mampintsha’s childhood neighbourhood. “It reminded me of Mampintsha, who used to call him Mseshi. What excited me is I met him on his son’s birthday,” she said.
The two shared memories and stayed together until late in the evening, making it a touching tribute to Mampintsha and a meaningful moment for their family.
