Drama, Growth and Controversy

Premiering in 2017, Uthando Nes’thembu offers a look into Mseleku’s complex polygamous life. Season 8 was filled with major developments, including Mseleku’s recovery from a stroke, the introduction of his fifth wife, Samke Khwela, and tension with existing wives MaYeni and MaNgwabe, who threatened to leave.

The emotional moments, including a heated argument between the wives that brought Mseleku to tears, sparked nationwide debate. Viewers were divided, with some criticising the show for misrepresenting Zulu cultural norms, while others praised it for educating the public on polygamy.

As for whether Season 9 is coming, Mseleku said that decision lies with Mzansi Magic. “They hold the rights. I don’t make that call,” he explained.

Despite the challenges, Mseleku is hopeful and appreciative. “This nomination is a reflection of the journey we’ve been through,” he said.

Whether the show continues or not, Uthando Nes’thembu has certainly left a mark on South African television.
