EFF’s Julius Malema urges youth to emulate ‘the 1976 generation’ & fight for rights of young people! Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has called on the youth in KwaZulu-Natal to continue fighting for the freedom left by the legacy of the youth of 1976.
He addressed crowds at the party’s Youth Day commemoration at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday.

Malema honoured struggle leaders, including Hector Peterson, who was shot and killed during the uprising more than 40 years ago, saying that their heroism would not be in vain as the youth of today would continue to fight the good fight.
He further called on the youth to take a stand for free education, food in schools for health nutrition, and for teachers who will teach and provide a safe space for learners.
“After 1976, many young people from KwaMashu, from Umlazi, from everywhere in KZN, they went into exile to join to join MK and to join APLA to fight for our freedom. This place we are in is not a place of cowards, that’s why you cannot be cowards. You, the youth of today, must say we want to be like the 1976 generation and fight for our country and fight for the youth and fight for the rights of young people,” said Malema.
