Power restored in some Belhar homes but other parts of Cape Town are in the dark! Two of five vandalised electric boxes have been temporarily fixed, restoring power to some homes in Belhar in the City of Cape Town, but others remain in the dark.

The weeks-long outage, caused by cable theft and vandalism, has put elderly residents who rely on oxygen machines in danger.

It’s understood that repairs are expected to continue in Trombone.

Eskom’s Kyle Cookson said that the ongoing damage is impacting several communities.

“The continuous theft and vandalism of Eskom infrastructure is affecting electricity restoration to customers in Belhar, Bishop Lavis, Conart, Elsies River, Leonsdale, Matroosfontein and Riverton.

These recurring incidents cause a significant delay in electricity restoration efforts to our customers in these affected areas.”
