CATA & CODETA reach agreement on route operations between Mfuleni, Khayelitsha, Somerset West! A taxi dispute which led to deadly violence in Cape Town has been resolved.
The Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) and the Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association (CODETA) have agreed on route operations between Mfuleni, Khayelitsha, and Somerset West.
At least eight taxi operators from both rival taxi associations were shot and killed in the past few weeks at the height of a dispute over these routes.

CODETA spokesperson Makhosandile Tumana said they’re happy that they were able to resolve their differences.
“At the dialogue, it was agreed that operators from Mfuleni shall exercise their rights as per their operating licence to transport passengers from Mfuleni to Somerset West and return them.”
Tumana said that the negotiations were not easy.
“We want to maintain peace in the province, and we also want to apologise to the commuters who were affected by this dispute.”
Tumana said he hoped that both taxi associations would keep their end of the bargain.
