Former Transnet executives Brian Molefe and Siyabonga Gama appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Monday, facing charges of fraud, corruption, and money laundering.
The two, now members of Parliament under the MK Party, handed themselves over to police earlier in the day.
They are joined in the dock by Transnet’s former CFO Anoj Singh and top engineer Thamsanqa Jiyane. The charges relate to a controversial R93 million payment made to Trillian Capital, a company linked to the Gupta family.

Allegations of State Capture
The alleged irregular payment dates back to 2015. The State Capture Commission previously recommended that Molefe, Gama, and Singh be investigated for allegedly diverting Transnet funds to benefit the Guptas.
According to reports, the contract to supply over 1,000 locomotives was initially awarded to another company, but was later cancelled and re-awarded to Trillian. An invoice of R93 million was then allegedly issued without proper justification.
Molefe Denies Wrongdoing
In court, Molefe’s lawyer read out his affidavit, stating:
“I intend tendering a plea of not guilty on all the charges preferred against me… I submit that the evidence against me is extremely weak.”
The court is currently hearing the group’s bail application.
